Why gallery generate BIG load of server, my test

In my opinion PHPBB Gallery generate big cos:
1. Big images when water mark is "on" are imposed on the fly by the server instead of caching images.
2. Why images are in image.php?album_id=1&image_id=36 form, instead of directory/cached_image.jpg?

*my forum have about 10k users and generate about 50k pageviews.

I think that gallery could work a lot faster if big images (the image on image_page.php page) have caching... not being worked each time when user clicked...

I noticed the same, but I think that's a common php-image lack

well, what he means is that .. if u r looking on an image from the gallery (e.g. in ur sig, or in the gallery,..), u can watch ur browser refreshing the image each time u re-visit the page


but the strangest thing is: that lack won't appear on this board/gallery

click that link to my old avatar once - u c how ur browser loads it for the first time
close the window/tab and click the link again - u should notice that ur browser refreshes it

try the same with an image from this board's gallery and u'll c that it got locally cached!

so, maybe that reloading-behaviour depends on the server - or did you, nickvergessen, modify it somehow so the lack of caching was fixed?


note: whenever I said 'browser', I was talking about the latest stable-release of Mozilla Firefox 2!

no, im using the gallery like it is in 0.3.1 (even with the already fixed bugs)

IMO if all permissions is off (all are allowed see all gallerys) images should be in this form: directory/cached_image.jpg
not this image_page.php?album_id=1&image_id=65. Gallery isnt very quick..
