Update to 1.1.1 'cache not writable?'

Error description and message
I've been trying to upgrade my gallery from 1.0.6 to 1.0.0 and now 1.1.0.

I'm on the update page and apparently my 'cache' folder within gallery/images is not writable which is impossible as my server is linux, never had problems regarding changing permissions. The folder itself even shows it's permission settings is '777'.

I've tried, re-uploading the folder numerous times, clearing cache and everything.

Is there any help I can get as this is effecting my board?

Could you please remove the founder check ( viewtopic.php?f=67&t=2590 ) so I can have a look at this?

Also, I uninstalled the whole database I had before 1.0.6 and trying a fresh one but it still says cache is not writable.
