I am executing the step by step instructions in the .xml for this mod. When I get to the point of creating a /install directory (one does not exist in the root of /public_html) the forum then goes offline and is not accesable. It say's something about a protection mechanism when the /install directory exists.
Is this supposed to happen and I should just continue on with the install?

This is normal.
Just execute the install/ and delete it afterwards.
