Contest winner instead of last picture in thumbnail

In our board we do have a category album that contains all the different contest albums. When opening the category album we see the list of sub albums including a thumbnail of the last picture added to each album. When a contest has ended we rather would like to see the thumbnail of the winning picture instead of the last picture. Is there a possibility to configure the gallery like that or does that mean re-coding?
