I've spoken to my service provider and they told me the memory limit for my PHP was 30 MB. I've now updated it to 80 MB memory. Do you think that should be enough? The update will take a couple of hours to kick in.

As your images are quite big, this might cause the problem. So the server can not create the medium thumbnails as there is not enough free memory.
